Carry-On
The standard Monos hard-shell carry-on discussed in this comparison.
See product detailsThe standard Away The Carry-On and Monos Carry-On are both polycarbonate spinner suitcases, and both brands describe compression features for organizing clothes. Their published dimensions are close, but the listed capacities and weights differ. Before choosing one, decide which packing layout you prefer and compare the complete exterior dimensions with the airline you will actually fly.
This page compares the standard Away The Carry-On with the standard Monos Carry-On. It does not cover Away’s Bigger Carry-On or Monos Carry-On Plus, Pro, or Expandable models. We have not packed or traveled with either bag.
The short answer
Consider Away The Carry-On if its 41-liter listed capacity and interior pocket layout suit your packing style. Consider Monos Carry-On if you prefer a lighter listed weight, compression pad, and included shoe and laundry bags. The measurements differ by fractions of an inch, and either could exceed a particular airline’s allowance. “Fits most airlines” is not a guarantee for every carrier, fare, or aircraft.

Away: slightly more listed capacity
Away lists its standard Carry-On at 41 liters and 7.5 pounds, with exterior measurements of 22 by 14.4 by 9.1 inches including wheels and handles. The brand describes an interior compression system, mesh pockets, and a hanging pocket. Its stated capacity is 1.1 liters more than Monos’s standard Carry-On listing, although how much you can fit depends on garment bulk and how you pack.
Away’s current page lists a 100-day return window for unused items and LifetimeCare coverage. Read the current coverage terms to understand what qualifies and how the process works. A warranty is a service policy, not evidence that a bag cannot be damaged.
Monos: lower listed weight and included packing bags
Monos lists its standard Carry-On at 6.60 pounds and 39.9 liters, with exterior measurements of 22 by 14 by 9 inches including wheels and fixed handles. The page describes a removable compression pad, a zippered panel, and included shoe and laundry bags. Those details may appeal if you prefer more compartmentalized packing or are trying to keep the empty case weight down.
Monos describes a 100-day trial for luggage that remains unused and in brand-new condition with original packaging, plus a limited lifetime warranty. Check the current return and warranty terms before purchase, especially if you plan to inspect or test the luggage at home.
Check the airline before you buy
Measure your intended bag against the carrier’s current carry-on policy, including wheels and handles. Compare the outside dimensions, not just the model name or the manufacturer’s “fits most” language. Airlines may set different limits by route, aircraft, fare, or overhead-bin availability. If the case is expanded, packed tightly, or has anything attached, its real dimensions may differ from the neat product-page measurement.
Capacity labels also do not make the interiors identical. Away lists 41 liters and describes a system of pockets; Monos lists 39.9 liters and includes packing bags. Think through what you carry, whether you use cubes, and how much structure you want in the main compartment. If possible, inspect the wheel action, handle play, zippers, and interior layout in person.
Which one should you shortlist?
- Shortlist Away The Carry-On if the published 41-liter capacity and pocket layout match your packing habits, and the dimensions meet your airline’s rules.
- Shortlist Monos Carry-On if a lower listed empty weight and the included packing bags are more useful to you, and the size works for your trip.
- Wait to decide until you have checked the carrier’s exact allowance and current return terms. Similar carry-on names do not promise acceptance on every flight.
On the spec sheet, Away gives you a little more listed volume; Monos lists a lower empty weight and includes shoe and laundry bags. Those are concrete differences to weigh against your airline, packing routine, and preferred interior. Confirm that you are viewing the standard models before comparing current prices.
